Marin Drive Firewise Class 2015

On July 18, 2015, Fire Captain Cary Gloeckner in conjunction with the newly created Marin Drive Firewise Community Leadership will be conducting a free wildfire defensible space class where he will teach homeowners how to survive a wildfire, prepare a home defensible space, discuss evacuation and shelter in place issues, describe and discuss what a Firewise Community is and how it will help to save lives and homes as well as introduce the volunteer core leadership of this brand new Firewise Community.

The class will be in (3) 45 minute segments consisting of real wildfire footage that will change your perspective on how to protect your family and home from wildfire, case studies of home survival, a lesson on why your home was mapped as an Very High Fire Danger by the State of California and a lesson on the plan Captain Gloeckner has come up with to assess your home’s actual wildfire danger rating in order to create a new map that will more accurately depict your home’s threat from wildfire.  This is a must see presentation and it is completely free.

The community gathering will be held at Fire Station 4 at 309 Poplar Ave., Mill Valley from 9am to noon.  There will be a potluck lunch afterwards from 12 to 1:30 pm.  You can easily find our Station by looking for the new blue reflective address placard, curbside and at our mailbox.  At the meeting Captain Gloeckner will also be debuting a new emergency address placarding system available for purchase through Southern Marin Fire District with proceeds going to support our vegetation management program.

During the meeting, kids will be able to take a guided tour of the Fire House, climb on the Engines and Ladder Truck and also squirt water out of real fire hoses too!

We look forward to seeing all Marin Drive and Marin Drive area residents tomorrow at this very important gathering and informational class.  To learn more check out the new Marin Drive Firewise Community Website at:  http://www.marindrivecommunity.com
